Rencontres d'Arles 2007

rencontres-arles-2007
After the Depardon maelstrom, our joy at the success achieved (52,000 visitors, 20% of them foreign; overall, a 50% rise on 2005) was tinged with concerns: what future could we invent so as not to lose the impetus generated and the movement that had carried us along. This perplexity definitely has a starry-eyed “forever onwards and upwards” side to it.

Alive Exhibition - Paris

© Mitsuhiko Imamori/Minden Pictures/J.H. Editorial
“Alive” is not only beautiful pictures of animals. It is also about our lifestyles, with facts and figures, and presents the paths we should follow in the future. We are all responsible for our planet. It is up to each and every one of us to realize that we must act by taking some simple and obvious measures. Let us all adopt more meaningful everyday gestures. Now is the time.

Imaging is more - photokina is more: Starting on September 26, 2006, photokina will once again be setting the standard as the global information and communication platform of the imaging sector, with the latest techniques, products, applications and services. It is the wide range of products on show, which cover the entire scope of the complex imaging market that makes photokina unique. At the same time, the leading trade fair is presenting itself in a new light: The modified concept of the "new photokina" and the premiere in the new Cologne exhibition center ensure that even regular visitors to the show are eagerly awaiting this year's event.

Visa pour l'image Perpignan 2006

visa-pour-image perpignan 2006
Earthquake in Kashmir (receiving, alas, much less media cover than last year’s tsunami), the 20th anniversary of Chernobyl, Hamas elected in Palestine, nuclear threats from Iran, failed peace negotiations between Khartoum and the rebels in a bid to find a solution to the disaster in Darfur, drought in Kenya and Somalia, not to mention civil war (even if not officially recognized as such) in Iraq where the never-ending list of victims gets longer every day. The news in 2005/2006 has brought its grim harvest of bad news, wars, disasters, threats and bombings. For photojournalists, these are all stories that have to be reported, and Visa pour l’Image is duty bound to show them in Perpignan. As it does every year, and has done for 18 years – yes, 18 years already.

Rencontres d'Arles 2006

rencontres arles 2006

The hallmark of the Rencontres d’Arles 2006 will be Raymond Depardon’s appetite and generosity. In his journey through the second half of the 20th century, this unanimously celebrated figure has ceaselessly developed his use of photography. Equally renowned for photographs and films, he has also written many books, which for him are a creative pinnacle. Despite his teeming workload, Raymond Depardon agreed to program a large part of the 2006 festival, setting aside his own work in order to showcase that of others.
